GAME NOTES--SAMFORD VS. WOFFORD (PDF)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's basketball team (7-10, 2-1 SoCon) will return home to play host to the Wofford Terriers (7-9, 2-0 SoCon) on Thursday, Jan. 20 at 6 p.m. in the Pete Hanna Center. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ with Curt Bloom (PBP), Emily London Swaim (Color) and Haley Sue Harbison (sideline) calling the action.
- Samford and Wofford are meeting for the 32nd time, with Samford holding a 25-6 series lead. The teams met twice last season, with each team taking one contest. Wofford took the first game, 70-62, while Samford came back to win the second contest by a score of 80-55. Both games were played in Spartanburg, S.C.
- Samford last played on Jan. 15, when the Bulldogs earned a 62-57 win at UNCG. Samford was led in the win by Andrea Cournoyer, posting her first career double-double with 27 points and a career-high 11 rebounds. Cournoyer also dished out five assists in the win. Mallory Hampton scored nine points, while Natalie Armstrong added eight points.
- Wofford is coming off a 74-69 win at Furman last Thursday evening. In the win for the Terriers, Niyah Lutz scored 25 points, while Reagan Rapert had 17 points for Wofford.
- Wofford is averaging a SoCon-best 66.4 points per game entering Thursday night's contest, while giving up 63.4 points per game.
- Wofford is led in scoring by Jackie Carman, averaging 12.3 points per game. Niyah Lutz is averaging 9.4 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. Lilly Hatton is scoring 8.9 points per game so far this season.
- Andrea Cournoyer comes into Thursday evening's game leading the SoCon in scoring at 18.1 points per game while also leading the league in both steals (3.1) per game and in free throw percentage (.870).
- Samford is 4-3 at home so far this season. The Bulldogs have earned home-court wins over Montevallo, Murray State, Talladega College and UAB. Samford has fallen to Jacksonville State, Alabama A&M and Chattanooga in the friendly confines of the Pete Hanna Center.
- The Bulldogs are 5-0 when scoring 75 or more points in a game so far this season.
- Samford is averaging 62.3 points per game to rank third in the SoCon. The Bulldogs are also sixth in scoring defense at 68.2 points allowed per contest.
- Since joining the Southern Conference in 2008, Samford has posted a record of 133-85 in league games. Against the current members of the SoCon, Samford has an all-time record of 117-83. Samford's all-time record against each current SoCon school is: Chattanooga (9-27), ETSU (9-7), Furman (17-13), Mercer (9-19), UNCG (22-7), Western Carolina (26-4) and Wofford (25-6).
- Sussy Ngulefac (6-3, Fr., F) has made 65.1 percent of her shots so far this season, which currently leads the Southern Conference. The Lilburn, Ga., native, continues to grow as an inside threat for the Bulldogs, averaging 8.2 points and 4.8 rebounds. She posted her first career double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds against Chattanooga.
- Sanaa Redmond enters the week seventh in the league in assists at 2.6 per game. The freshman from Philadelphia, Pa., had a career-high nine assists in the Bulldogs' win over Montevallo.
- The Bulldogs are shooting 40.4 percent from the floor to rank first in the SoCon. Samford has made 396-of-979 attempts so far this season. Sussy Ngulefac leads the way shooting 65.1 percent.
- Shauntai Battle is averaging 7.8 points per game to rank 26th in the SoCon. She also ranks sixth in 3-point FG made per game (1.6) as well.
- Preseason All-SoCon selection and junior forward Annie Ramil has been a force on the boards, averaging 7.1 rebounds per game, ranking sixth in the league. She tied a career-high with 16 in the recent win at North Alabama.
- Mallory Hampton is off to a good start this season, ranking sixth in the SoCon in assists per game (2.7).
- As a team, Samford has done a good job of defending the three-point shot so far this season. The Bulldogs have limited their opponents to just 29.3 percent from beyond the arc, ranking third in the Southern Conference.
- In two-plus seasons under head coach Carley Kuhns, Samford is 23-7 in Southern Conference play. The Bulldogs won a share of the SoCon regular season title in her first season with a 10-4 mark in conference play. Last season, she led the Bulldogs to an 11-2 record in Southern Conference record, winning the program's first outright SoCon regular season championship. So far this season, Samford is 2-1 in league contests.
- Samford junior guard Andrea Cournoyer was named the SoCon Player of the Week on Tuesday. In two games last week, Cournoyer averaged 21.0 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game.
