BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Samford women's basketball team (8-11, 3-2 SoCon) will go back out on the road to play at the SoCon-leading Mercer Bears (12-6, 5-1 SoCon) Saturday at 1:30 p.m. (CT) at Hawkins Arena. The game can be seen live on ESPN+ with Bryce Koon (PBP) and Sybil Blalock (Color) calling the action.
- Samford and Mercer are meeting for the 29th time, with Mercer holding a 19-9 series lead. The teams met twice last season, with Samford winning both contests. The Bulldogs took the first meeting in the Pete Hanna Center, 78-69, and then Samford earned a 74-65 win in Macon, Ga.
- Samford last played on Jan. 22, when the Bulldogs earned a 90-81 win over the Furman Paladins in the Pete Hanna Center. As a team, Samford shot 52.9 percent from the floor and 53.3 percent from three-point range. Andrea Cournoyer led Samford with 29 points and six assists. Natalie Armstrong had 15 points and five rebounds, while Shauntai Battle added 13 points. Sanaa Redmond had 11 points and eight assists, while Sussy Ngulefac scored 10 points for the Bulldogs.
- Mercer is coming off a 67-53 win over Wofford, also on Jan. 22. Amoria Neal-Tysor led Mercer in the win with 21 points and 11 rebounds.
- Mercer is averaging 62.7 points per game entering Saturday afternoon's contest, while giving up 59.1 points per game.
- Mercer is led in scoring by Amoria Neal-Tysor, averaging 14.1 points per game. Jaron Dougherty scores 13.1 points per game, while Shannon Titus averages 10.5 points per game.
- Samford's Andrea Cournoyer comes into Saturday afternoon's game leading the SoCon in scoring at 18.6 points per game while also leading in steals (2.9) per game and ranking second in free throw percentage (.862).
- Samford is 3-7 in road games so far this season. The Bulldogs have won their last three road games. On Dec. 30, Samford earned a 78-75 win at North Alabama. Samford won at Western Carolina, 62-47 on Jan. 13, and the Bulldogs picked up a 62-57 win at UNCG on Jan. 15.
- The Bulldogs are 6-0 when scoring 75 or more points in a game so far this season. The 90 points scored against Furman are the most Samford has ever scored in a SoCon game.
- Samford is averaging 64.1 points per game to rank third in the SoCon. The Bulldogs are also sixth in scoring defense at 69.5 points allowed per contest.
- Since joining the Southern Conference in 2008, Samford has posted a record of 134-86 in league games. Against the current members of the SoCon, Samford has an all-time record of 118-84. Samford's all-time record against each current SoCon school is: Chattanooga (9-27), ETSU (9-7), Furman (18-13), Mercer (9-19), UNCG (22-7), Western Carolina (26-4) and Wofford (25-7).
- Sanaa Redmond enters the week fourth in the league in assists at 2.9 per game. The freshman from Philadelphia, Pa., had a career-high nine assists in the Bulldogs' win over Montevallo.
- The Bulldogs are shooting 41.3 percent from the floor to rank first in the SoCon. Samford has made 450-of-1090 attempts so far this season. Sussy Ngulefac leads the way shooting a SoCon-best 66.0 percent.
- Shauntai Battle is averaging 8.2 points per game to rank 24th in the SoCon. She also ranks sixth in 3-point FG made per game (1.7) as well.
- Preseason All-SoCon selection and junior forward Annie Ramil has been a force on the boards, averaging 6.8 rebounds per game, ranking eighth in the league. She tied a career-high with 16 in the win at North Alabama.
- Mallory Hampton is off to a good start this season, ranking 11th in the SoCon in assists per game (2.5).
- As a team, Samford has done a good job of defending the three-point shot so far this season. The Bulldogs have limited their opponents to just 29.9 percent from beyond the arc, ranking third in the Southern Conference.
- In two-plus seasons under head coach Carley Kuhns, Samford is 24-8 in Southern Conference play. The Bulldogs won a share of the SoCon regular season title in her first season with a 10-4 mark in conference play. Last season, she led the Bulldogs to an 11-2 record in Southern Conference record, winning the program's first outright SoCon regular season championship. So far this season, Samford is 3-2 in league contests.
- Samford and Mercer last met on Feb. 25, 2021, in Macon, Ga. The Bulldogs came away with a 74-65 victory in that latest contest. In the win for Samford, Natalie Armstrong had 24 points and eight rebounds. Annie Ramil had 17 points and six rebounds, Raven Omar had 14 points and Andrea Cournoyer added 11 points.

- Following Saturday afternoon's road game at Mercer, Samford will remain on the road for a pair of games next week. The Bulldogs will play at ETSU Feb. 3 at 6 p.m. (CT), and at Chattanooga Feb. 5 at 2 p.m. (CT).
