SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford junior guard
Andrea Cournoyer was named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week when the league released its weekly academic award Wednesday afternoon.
Cournoyer led the Bulldogs in a 78-75 overtime win at North Alabama last Thursday. She scored 24 points to lead all scorers, making 3-of-5 shots from three-point range. Cournoyer also had four rebounds, two assists and one steal in the win. Academically, she has a perfect 4.0 grade point average in communication sciences and disorders. She was named to the SoCon Academic Honor Roll for the 2020-21 academic year.
For the season, Cournoyer leads the SoCon in scoring, averaging 17.8 points per game. She also leads the SoCon in steals at 3.1 per game and she ranks second in the league in free throw percentage, making 90 percent of her attempts.
