
Women Finish Fifth, Men 10th At Crimson Cross-Country Classic

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Samford women's cross-country team placed fifth and the men came in 10th, competing against a stellar field in the Crimson Classic, hosted by the University of Alabama Friday morning.
"Overall, I like the direction both squads are headed as we approach championship season," Samford Coach Chad Balyo said. "I'm excited for the next several weeks of racing season and to build on where we are."
The women's team finished with 151 points to place fifth in a 19-team field that included seven Power-Five programs, with Samford finishing ahead of four of those P-Five teams. Among those competing in the women's race were Alabama, Auburn, South Carolina, Florida State, Georgia and Mississippi State. Alabama won the women's race with 26 points.
On the men's side, the Bulldogs had 276 points, placing 10th. The men's race included five Power-Five programs, which were Alabama, Clemson, Auburn, Georgia and Florida State. Alabama won the men's race as well with 31 points.
McKenzie Hogue paced the women's team, placing fifth in the 6,000-meter run, with a time of 20:19.2. Gabbie Hoots placed 27th out of 180 runners, finishing the course in 21:15.7. Ashley Walker finished 38th at 21:33.5, while Harper McGowan came in 43rd with a time of 21:38.0. Katie Strozier came in 50th with a mark of 21:44.5.
The men's team was led by Jeb Jones in the 8,000-meter race, placing 45th with a time of 25:12.4. Andrew McGinnis came in 52nd at 25:21.8. Jackson Merrell came in 83rd at 26:14.3, while Harrison Siegel finished 87th at 26:18.2 and Cole Arrington placed 89th with a time of 26:27.8.
