CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Samford soccer team battled for 90 minutes with SoCon-leading Chattanooga, with the game ending in a 1-1 tie, Friday evening at the UTC Sports Complex.
With the tie, Samford is now 6-3-5 overall and 2-1-2 in SoCon play. Chattanooga's record moves to 6-3-3 overall and 4-0-1 in league action.
"Our kids battled and did the things we asked them to do," Samford head coach
Todd Yelton said. "I wish we could have got one more past them."
Chattanooga took the lead first when Mackenzie Smith scored off an assist from Zoey Mize in the 16
th minute of the match to give the Mocs an early 1-0 lead. Samford knotted the scored at 1-1 in the 28
th minute when
Nikki Bario scored on a header off an assist from
Lindsay Origliasso. Neither team could score the rest of the way and the game ended in the 1-1 draw.
As a team, Samford had eight shots on the night, to seven for Chattanooga. The Bulldogs had five corner kicks, while the Mocs had two.
Samford will host ETSU next Friday, Oct. 14 at 6 p.m. at Shauna Yelton Field. Admission to the game is free. To follow all games this season, click on the following link:
