Baseball Releases 2023 Schedule

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Samford Baseball Head Coach Tony David announced on Friday the Bulldogs' 2023 Schedule.

"We are excited about the upcoming schedule and the great challenge that it will be for our guys and program," David said. "On top of another difficult Southern Conference slate that gives us one more road-than-home series, the schedule is filled with many outstanding teams and programs like LSU, Southeastern Louisiana, Auburn, Alabama, Kansas, and Mississippi State. Those are all 'names' that present a great challenge."

Headlining the Bulldogs' nonconference slate in 2023 is a three-game series at perennial powerhouse LSU from March 10-12 in Baton Rouge, La. The Bulldogs also travel to Memphis (Feb. 17-19) and Southeastern Louisiana (Feb. 24-26) for their first two weekends of the season while hosting UT Martin (March 17-19), Toledo (April 14-16), and Kansas (May 11-13) later in the year.

Notable midweek opponents include a home-and-home with Alabama, UAB, North Alabama, and Jacksonville State. The Bulldogs will take on Mississippi State in Starkville on March 28 and travel to The Plains on April 18 to take on Auburn before hosting the Tigers at the Hoover Met on May 9.

Samford begins SoCon play on March 24 with a three-game series at ETSU. The Bulldogs will host The Citadel (March 31-April 2), UNC Greensboro (April 6-8), and Western Carolina (May 5-7) while traveling to Wofford (April 21-23), VMI (April 28-30), and Mercer (May 18-20) to close out the regular season.

The Southern Conference Championship will once again be held in Greenville, S.C. at Fluor Field from May 23-28.

"The schedule needs to help attract players while helping you get better and ready for conference play," David said. "As we try to keep this program moving forward, the schedule needs to give you an increased opportunity for postseason play. We believe the 2023 edition accomplishes those goals. I know our players are excited about it."

In his first season at the helm in 2022, Coach David's squad posted a record of 28-29. The Bulldogs earned series victories against five of their seven SoCon opponents, finishing 12-9 in league action to earn the no. 3 seed in the postseason conference tournament.
