Samford Women’s Basketball Heads to Florida For UCF Thanksgiving Classic

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's basketball team hits the road for an after-Thanksgiving special as the Bulldogs take on Rode Island and host UCF.

Tipoff for the UCF game is slated for 1 p.m. CT in Orlando, Fla., on Saturday with the game streaming on ESPN+. Game Notes can be found here.

The Samford and Rhode Island game is scheduled for 11 am on Sunday.

Samford enters the weekend with a 3-3 record through the first six games of the 2022-23 season. Last time out, 10 different scored as Samford dismantled Talladega 84-47.

The Bulldogs of Samford and the Knights of UCF are meeting for the 12th time in program history. Tuesday will be the first meeting between the two squads since Samford topped UCF 58-51 in 2017.

Samford and Rhode Island are meeting for the third time with the trio of meetings since 2016. The Rams and the Bulldogs have each won a meeting in the series.

In the first six games of the season, Samford coach Carley Kuhns has started the lineup of Andrea Cournoyer, Sussy Ngulefac, Kathleen Wheeler, Alyssa Tarpley and Sanaa Redmond.

Entering the UCF game, Cournoyer is averaging a Southern Conference-best 22.2 points per game, which is good enough to rank 14th nationally. The senior guard ranks first in the SoCon and fourth in the country with 134 total points.

Cournoyer was also named SoCon Player of the week after scoring a program-record 37 points at Alabama A&M on November 17.
