Bulldogs Look To Extend Streak While Hosting Western Carolina For Pink Out Game Saturday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --
The Samford women's basketball team (11-13, 6-4 SoCon), winners of three in a row, will play host to the Western Carolina Catamounts (6-18, 0-10 SoCon) Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Pete Hanna Center. Admission to the game is free. The game can be seen live on ESPN+ with Curt Bloom (PBP), Emily London Swaim (Color) and Will Hudson (Sideline) calling the action.  
  
  • The game is Samford's annual Pink Out game, raising money and awareness for breast cancer research.
  • Samford and Western Carolina are meeting for the 31st time, with Samford holding a 26-4 series lead. The teams met earlier this season, with Samford picking up a 62-47 win in Cullowhee, N.C.
  • Samford last played on Feb. 10, with the Bulldogs earning a 73-57 win at home against UNCG. Samford was led in the win by Andrea Cournoyer with 16 points and five assists. Annie Ramil posted her second-straight double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Natalie Armstrong had 11 points, while Shauntai Battle and Sussy Ngulefac added nine points apiece. As a team, Samford dished out 20 assists on 25 made shots.
  • Western Carolina is coming off a 46-40 loss at Mercer Thursday evening. Endia Holliday led the Catamounts with 10 points and nine rebounds. Madison Pack added seven points and six rebounds, while Audrey Meyers and Andrea Martin Ruiz contributed six points each for Western Carolina.     
  • Western Carolina is averaging 53.8 points per game entering Saturday afternoon's contest, while giving up 59.5 points per game.  
  • WCU is led by Nadia Marshall, averaging 10.1 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. 
  • Samford's Andrea Cournoyer comes into Saturday afternoon's game leading the SoCon in scoring at 17.8 points per game while also leading in both steals (2.7) per game and in free throw percentage (.866).
  • Samford has a record of 7-4 so far this season in home games. The Bulldogs have earned home wins against Montevallo, Murray State, Talladega, UAB, Furman, ETSU and UNCG. The Bulldogs have fallen at home to Jacksonville State, Alabama A&M, Chattanooga and Wofford.
  • The Bulldogs are 7-0 when scoring 75 or more points in a game so far this season.  The 90 points scored against Furman are the most Samford has ever scored in a SoCon game.
  • Samford is averaging 65.7 points per game to rank second in the SoCon. The Bulldogs are giving up an average of 69.0 points per game so far this season. 
  • Since joining the Southern Conference in 2008, Samford has posted a record of 137-88 in league games. Against the current members of the SoCon, Samford has an all-time record of 121-86. Samford's all-time record against each current SoCon school is: Chattanooga (10-27), ETSU (10-8), Furman (18-13), Mercer (9-20), UNCG (23-7), Western Carolina (26-4) and Wofford (25-7).
  • Sanaa Redmond enters the weekend ranking third in the SoCon in assists at 3.0 per game. The freshman from Philadelphia, Pa., had a career-high nine assists in the Bulldogs' win over Montevallo.
  • The Bulldogs are shooting 42.1 percent from the floor to rank first in the SoCon. Samford has made 582-of-1381 attempts so far this season. Sussy Ngulefac leads the way shooting 61.5 percent. 
  • Shauntai Battle is averaging 8.0 points per game to rank 24th in the SoCon. She is also seventh in 3-point FG made per game (1.6) as well.  
  • Preseason All-SoCon selection and junior forward Annie Ramil has been a force on the boards, averaging 7.5 rebounds per game, ranking fourth in the league. She grabbed a career-high 17 rebounds in Samford's win over ETSU.
  • Mallory Hampton is off to a good start this season, ranking 12th in the SoCon in assists per game (2.3).
  • As a team, Samford has done a good job of defending the three-point shot so far this season. The Bulldogs have limited their opponents to just 30.8 percent from beyond the arc, ranking third in the Southern Conference.
  • In two-plus seasons under head coach Carley Kuhns, Samford is 27-10 in Southern Conference play. The Bulldogs won a share of the SoCon regular season title in her first season with a 10-4 mark in conference play. Last season, she led the Bulldogs to an 11-2 record in Southern Conference record, winning the program's first outright SoCon regular season championship. So far this season, Samford is 6-4 in league contests.
  • Samford and Western Carolina last met on Jan. 13, with the Bulldogs earning a 62-47 win in Cullowhee, N.C. Andrea Cournoyer led Samford with 15 points and eight rebounds. Sussy Ngulefac had 14 points, while Natalie Armstrong added 10 points. Annie Ramil had a team-high 10 rebounds in the win.

  • Following Saturday afternoon's game, Samford will go on the road for its next two games. The Bulldogs will play at Furman on Feb. 17 at 6 p.m. (CT) and then will play at Wofford Feb. 19 at 1 p.m. (CT).
