MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Samford women's golf team won the Alabama State Invitational Sunday and Monday at the RTJ Golf Trail at Capitol Hill (Par 72, 6,033 yards).
"I'm proud of our team," Samford head coach
Joe Davidson said. "We had to fight through some tough conditions in both rounds. We need to continue to improve as the season progresses."
The win marks the first time since 2019 that the Samford women's golf team has won a tournament. That year, the Bulldogs won the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate.
The teams only played two of the three originally scheduled rounds due to inclement weather.
Samford won the six-team field, taking the event by an impressive 19 strokes. Four of Samford's playing five finished in the top 10 of the event.
Sophie Membrino won the tournament,
Mary Kate Horton finished second,
Christian Williams tied for third, and
Bailey Dunstan tied for seventh.
Allison Dusek placed 17
th in the 35-player field.
Kelley Topiwala and
Allison Howard both played as individuals from Samford. Topiwala finished fifth and Howard placed 19
th.
Samford will next play in the Oyster Shuck Match Play, Mar. 7-8 in Charleston, S.C.
