Bulldogs To Host Mercer For Senior Day Saturday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --
The Samford women's basketball team (12-15, 7-6 SoCon) will wrap up its regular season by hosting SoCon-leading Mercer (19-6, 12-1 SoCon) Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Pete Hanna Center. Admission to the game is free. The game can be seen live on ESPN+ with Curt Bloom (PBP), Emily London Swaim (Color) and Will Hudson (Color) calling the action. Live stats will also be available at www.SamfordSports.com.       
 
  • Samford and Mercer are meeting for the 30th time, with Mercer holding a 20-9 series lead. The teams met earlier this season in Macon, Ga., with Mercer taking a 73-66 win. 
  • Mercer is coming off a 71-64 win at Furman Saturday. Erin Houpt led the Bears in the win with 22 points, while Shannon Titus added 18 points.     
  • Mercer is averaging 64.3 points per game entering Saturday afternoon's contest, while giving up 57.4 points per game.  
  • Mercer is led by Amoria Neal-Tysor, averaging 16.0 points per game. Shannon Titus averages 11.1 points per game, while Jaron Dougherty scores 10.9 points per game for the Bears.   
  • Samford's Andrea Cournoyer comes into Saturday afternoon's game ranking second in the SoCon in scoring at 17.0 points per game while leading in steals (2.6) per game and ranking free throw percentage (.868).
  • Samford has a record of 8-4 in home games so far this season. Samford has earned home wins over Montevallo, Murray State, Talladega, UAB, Furman, ETSU, UNCG and Western Carolina. 
  • The Bulldogs are 7-0 when scoring 75 or more points in a game so far this season. The 90 points scored in the home win against Furman are the most Samford has ever scored in a SoCon game.
  • Samford is averaging 65.1 points per game to rank second in the SoCon only to Wofford's 66.2 points per game. The Bulldogs are giving up an average of 68.3 points per game so far this season. 
  • Samford head coach Carley Kuhns has a record of 4-1 against Mercer. Her teams swept the season series each of the last two years but dropped a 73-66 contest at Mercer earlier this season.
  • Since joining the Southern Conference in 2008, Samford has posted a record of 138-90 in league games. Against the current members of the SoCon, Samford has an all-time record of 122-88. Samford's all-time record against each current SoCon school is: Chattanooga (10-27), ETSU (10-8), Furman (18-14), Mercer (9-20), UNCG (23-7), Western Carolina (27-4) and Wofford (25-8). 
  • Sanaa Redmond enters the weekend ranking fourth in the SoCon in assists at 2.9 per game. The freshman from Philadelphia, Pa., had a career-high nine assists in the Bulldogs' win over Montevallo.
  • The Bulldogs are shooting 42.1 percent from the floor to rank first in the SoCon. Samford has made 657-of-1561 attempts so far this season. Sussy Ngulefac leads the way shooting 63.6 percent. 
  • Shauntai Battle is averaging 7.4 points per game to rank 28th in the SoCon. She is also eighth in 3-point FG made per game (1.6) as well.  
  • Preseason All-SoCon selection and junior forward Annie Ramil has been a force on the boards, averaging 7.6 rebounds per game, ranking third in the league. She grabbed a career-high 17 rebounds in Samford's win over ETSU.
  • Mallory Hampton currently ranks 12th in the SoCon in assists per game (2.2).
  • Saturday's game will be Senior Day for Samford. Prior to the game, seniors Natalie Armstrong and Olivia Ramil will be honored on the court in the Pete Hanna Center. 
  • In two-plus seasons under head coach Carley Kuhns, Samford is 28-12 in Southern Conference play. The Bulldogs won a share of the SoCon regular season title in her first season with a 10-4 mark in conference play. Last season, she led the Bulldogs to an 11-2 record in Southern Conference record, winning the program's first outright SoCon regular season championship. So far this season, Samford is 7-6 in league contests.
  • Samford and Mercer last met on Jan. 29 in Macon Ga. Mercer came away with a 73-66 win in that earlier meeting. Samford was led in the game by Natalie Armstrong with 13 points and 14 rebounds. Annie Ramil also scored 13 points, making 6-of-8 shots from the floor. Sussy Ngulefac had 11 points, while Sanna Redmond added 10 points for the Bulldogs.
     
UP NEXT
  • Following Saturday's home game against Mercer, Samford will open play in the Southern Conference Tournament in Asheville, N.C. next Thursday. The Bulldogs' opponent and the time of the game will be announced later Saturday evening.
