Women’s Hoops To Play At Chattanooga Saturday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --
The Samford women's basketball team (8-13, 3-4 SoCon) will play at Chattanooga (6-17, 4-4 SoCon) Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. (CT) at McKenzie Arena. The game can be seen live on ESPN+ with Chris Goforth (PBP) and Todd Agne (Color) calling the action.
 
  • Samford and Chattanooga are meeting for the 37th time, with Chattanooga holding a 27-9 series lead. The teams met earlier this season in the Pete Hanna Center, with the Mocs coming away with a 71-69 double overtime victory.
  • Samford last played on Feb. 3, with the Bulldogs falling at East Tennessee State by a score of 76-69. Andrea Cournoyer led Samford in the loss with 19 points and seven rebounds. Mallory Hampton had 13 points, while Sussy Ngulefac had 10 points. Annie Ramil tallied seven points and a team-high eight rebounds.
  • Chattanooga is coming off a 59-53 loss at home to Mercer on Thursday evening. Dena Jarrells led the Mocs in the loss with 11 points and five rebounds. Brooke Hampel tallied 10 points and five rebounds for Chattanooga. 
  • Chattanooga is averaging 59.7 points per game entering Saturday afternoon's contest, while giving up 69.3 points per game.  
  • Chattanooga is led by Abbey Cornelius averaging 13.1 points 9.3 rebounds per game. Dena Jarrells is scoring 9.9 points per game for the Mocs.
  • Samford's Andrea Cournoyer comes into Saturday afternoon's game ranking second in the SoCon in scoring at 17.9 points per game while leading in steals (2.8) per game and ranking second in free throw percentage (.873).
  • Samford is 3-9 in road games so far this season. The Bulldogs have won three of their last five road games. On Dec. 30, Samford earned a 78-75 win at North Alabama. Samford won at Western Carolina, 62-47 on Jan. 13, and the Bulldogs picked up a 62-57 win at UNCG on Jan. 15.
  • The Bulldogs are 6-0 when scoring 75 or more points in a game so far this season.  The 90 points scored against Furman are the most Samford has ever scored in a SoCon game.
  • Samford is averaging 64.4 points per game to rank third in the SoCon. The Bulldogs are giving up an average of 70.0 points per game so far this season. 
  • Since joining the Southern Conference in 2008, Samford has posted a record of 134-88 in league games. Against the current members of the SoCon, Samford has an all-time record of 118-86. Samford's all-time record against each current SoCon school is: Chattanooga (9-27), ETSU (9-8), Furman (18-13), Mercer (9-20), UNCG (22-7), Western Carolina (26-4) and Wofford (25-7).
  • Sanaa Redmond enters the week tied for third in the SoCon in assists at 3.0 per game. The freshman from Philadelphia, Pa., had a career-high nine assists in the Bulldogs' win over Montevallo.
  • The Bulldogs are shooting 41.4 percent from the floor to rank first in the SoCon. Samford has made 501-of-1211 attempts so far this season. Sussy Ngulefac leads the way shooting a SoCon-best 63.0 percent. 
  • Shauntai Battle is averaging 8.2 points per game to rank 24th in the SoCon. She also ranks seventh in 3-point FG made per game (1.6) as well.  
  • Preseason All-SoCon selection and junior forward Annie Ramil has been a force on the boards, averaging 6.7 rebounds per game, ranking ninth in the league. She tied a career-high with 16 in the win at North Alabama.
  • Mallory Hampton is off to a good start this season, ranking 11th in the SoCon in assists per game (2.5).
  • As a team, Samford has done a good job of defending the three-point shot so far this season. The Bulldogs have limited their opponents to just 30.8 percent from beyond the arc, ranking fourth in the Southern Conference.
  • In two-plus seasons under head coach Carley Kuhns, Samford is 24-10 in Southern Conference play. The Bulldogs won a share of the SoCon regular season title in her first season with a 10-4 mark in conference play. Last season, she led the Bulldogs to an 11-2 record in Southern Conference record, winning the program's first outright SoCon regular season championship. So far this season, Samford is 3-4 in league contests
  • Samford and Chattanooga last met on Jan. 10, with the Mocs taking a 71-69 double overtime win over Samford. In the game, Samford was led by Andrea Cournoyer with 17 points and seven rebounds. Sussy Ngulefac posted a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Shauntai Battle added 11 points, while Natalie Armstrong had nine points and eight rebounds.

  • Following Saturday afternoon's game, Samford will return home to play host to ETSU on Monday, Feb. 7. The game is set for a 6 p.m. start from the Pete Hanna Center.
