BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford softball team continues its 2022 season this Thursday and Saturday with the Bulldogs hosting the Raiders of Colgate University for a three-game series at the Samford Softball Field.  
 
Both teams will take the field together first for a doubleheader on Thursday, Mar. 17 starting at 3 p.m. followed by a single game at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Mar. 19. Samford is looking to bounce back into the win column after going 1-3 at the Jacksonville State Invite this past weekend. The Bulldogs secured their lone win against Austin Peay after finding late runs in the top of the seventh for a 4-2 victory over the Governors.
 
With 23 games under their belt, the Bulldogs are batting .273 as a team with 10 home runs, 83 runs scored on 172 hits and 70 RBIs. The team is slugging .374, holds a .337 on-base clip, and has swiped 17 bases on 24 attempts. Samford enters competition with an overall record of 11-12, while Colgate currently sits at 8-9 with the Raiders competing against Southeastern Louisiana and Jacksonville State before taking the field against the Bulldogs.

BULLDOGS TO WATCH:

• Texas transfer, Mary Katherine Tedder, was named SoCon Player of the Week for her performance at the JSU Invitational. The Hoover, Ala., native led Samford offensively, going 8-for-13 at the plate for a .615 batting average. Tedder smacked three doubles and one triple while driving in four runs for the Bulldogs.
• In the circle, freshman McKenzie Newcomb leads the way with a 2.48 ERA, allowing 22 earned runs in 80.0 innings of work. Newcomb holds a win-loss record of 7-6 to go along with one save in her team-high 15 appearances this season.
