ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The Samford women's basketball team (12-16, 7-7 SoCon) will open the 2022 Southern Conference Tournament by taking on UNCG (9-18, 5-9 SoCon) in Thursday's quarterfinal round at 12:15 p.m. (CT) at Harrah's Cherokee Center in Asheville, N.C. The game can be seen live on ESPN+ with Pete Yanity (PBP), Robin Muller (Color) and Erin Summers (Sideline) calling the action. Live stats will also be available at www.SoConSports.com.
- Samford and UNCG are meeting for the 31st time, with Samford owning a 23-7 series lead. The teams met twice this season, with Samford winning both contests. The Bulldogs won the first meeting at UNCG, 62-57, and the second game at Samford, 74-57.
- Samford last played on Feb. 26, with the Bulldogs falling at home to Mercer, 64-55. Samford was led by Sussy Ngulefac with a career-high 19 points to go along with her nine rebounds. Annie Ramil posted a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
- Samford has an all-time record of 22-22 in postseason games. The Bulldogs posted a 2-3 record in the TAAC/Atlantic Sun Tournament, and the team was 3-4 in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament. Samford is 16-10 so far in the Southern Conference Tournament. Samford has a record of 1-3 in WNIT games and 0-2 in the NCAA Tournament.

- UNCG is coming off a 67-39 win over Western Carolina Saturday. Pernilla Sorensen led the Spartans with 12 points, while Aja Boyd added 11 points.
- UNCG is averaging 55.0 points per game entering Thursday afternoon's contest, while giving up 56.4 points per game.
- UNCG is led by Isys Grady, averaging 10.0 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. Aja Boyd averages 9.3 points and 6.7 rebounds per contest. Khalis Cain averages a team-high 7.0 rebounds per game.
- Samford's Andrea Cournoyer comes into Thursday afternoon's game ranking second in the SoCon in scoring at 16.6 points per game while leading the SoCon in steals (2.6) per game.
- Thursday afternoon's game will mark Samford's first neutral-site game of the 2021-22 season. Playing away from the Pete Hanna Center, Samford has a mark of 4-11.
- The Bulldogs are 7-0 when scoring 75 or more points in a game so far this season. The 90 points scored in the home win against Furman are the most Samford has ever scored in a SoCon game.
- Samford is averaging 64.8 points per game to rank second in the SoCon only to Wofford's 66.8 points per game. The Bulldogs are giving up an average of 68.2 points per game so far this season.
- Samford head coach Carley Kuhns has a record of 7-0 against UNCG. Her teams swept the season series each of her three seasons so far. The teams also played in the championship game of the 2020 SoCon Tournament, with Samford earning a 59-54 win to capture the tournament title.
- Since joining the Southern Conference in 2008, Samford has posted a record of 138-91 in league games. Against the current members of the SoCon, Samford has an all-time record of 122-89. Samford's all-time record against each current SoCon school is: Chattanooga (10-27), ETSU (10-8), Furman (18-14), Mercer (9-21), UNCG (23-7), Western Carolina (27-4) and Wofford (25-8).
- Sanaa Redmond enters the week ranking fourth in the SoCon in assists at 2.9 per game. The freshman from Philadelphia, Pa., had a career-high nine assists in the Bulldogs' win over Montevallo.
- The Bulldogs are shooting 41.8 percent from the floor to rank first in the SoCon. Samford has made 673-of-1609 attempts so far this season. Sussy Ngulefac leads the way shooting 63.8 percent.
- Shauntai Battle is averaging 7.4 points per game to rank 28th in the SoCon. She is also tied for seventh in 3-point FG made per game (1.5) as well.
- Preseason All-SoCon selection and junior forward Annie Ramil has been a force on the boards, averaging 7.8 rebounds per game, ranking third in the league. She grabbed a career-high 17 rebounds in Samford's win over ETSU.
- Mallory Hampton currently ranks 13th in the SoCon in assists per game (2.1).
- In two-plus seasons under head coach Carley Kuhns, Samford is 28-13 in Southern Conference play. The Bulldogs won a share of the SoCon regular season title in her first season with a 10-4 mark in conference play. Last season, she led the Bulldogs to an 11-2 record in Southern Conference record, winning the program's first outright SoCon regular season championship. This season, Samford posted a record of 7-7 in league contests.
- Samford and UNCG last met on Feb. 10, with Samford earning a 73-57 win in the Pete Hanna Center. Samford was led in the win by Andrea Cournoyer with 16 points and five assists. Annie Ramil posted her second-straight double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Natalie Armstrong had 11 points, while Shauntai Battle and Sussy Ngulefac added nine points apiece. As a team, Samford dished out 20 assists on 25 made shots.

- Following Thursday's game, the winner of the Samford-UNC Greensboro game will advance to Friday's semifinal round to take on the winner of the Mercer-Western Carolina game at 10 a.m. (CT). The championship game of the Southern Conference Tournament is set for Sunday at 11 a.m. (CT).
