Baseball To Host Cross-Town Rival UAB Tuesday Evening

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.
 – The Samford University baseball team (12-9) will play host to cross-town rival UAB (15-7, 3-3 C-USA) Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. at Joe Lee Griffin Field. The game can be seen live on ESPN+. 
 
  • Samford is set to start right-handed pitcher Brody Westbrooks Tuesday evening. Westbrooks has a record of 2-0 and a 5.40 ERA.
  • UAB is scheduled to start right-hander Aidan Moza (0-0, 6.14 ERA) Tuesday night.
  • Samford and UAB have met 90 previous times, with the Blazers holding a 58-32 series lead. In the last 10 meetings, Samford is 7-3 against the Blazers.
  • This is the first year for both head coaches Tony David (Samford) and Casey Dunn (UAB) in their current positions. Dunn spent the last 17 seasons as the head coach at Samford, and David was the program's associate head coach during that time.
  • Samford enters the week with a mark of 12-9. The Bulldogs won two of three games at UCF over the weekend. Samford won the first two games, 4-3 and 7-6, before falling in game three, 11-1. 
  • UAB has a record of 15-7 overall and 3-3 in Conference USA. The Blazers lost two-of-three games to Middle Tennessee over the weekend. UAB dropped the first two games, 1-0 and 6-3, before winning game three, 6-5. 
  • Samford has made a habit of winning close games so far this season. The Bulldogs are 7-1 in games decided by three runs or less.
  • Stephen Klein leads Samford with a .373 average, six doubles, three home runs and 18 RBI. Towns King is hitting .351 with six doubles, one triple, six home runs and 19 RBI.
  • UAB is led offensively by Christian Hall, batting .403 with three doubles, two triples, three home runs and 18 RBI.
  • Entering this week, Samford leads the Southern Conference in fielding. The Bulldogs currently have a .973 team fielding percentage.

  • Samford will host a three-game series with Missouri State this weekend. The teams are set to play Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 12 p.m. at Joe Lee Griffin Field.
