Bulldogs Set To Host Missouri State In Weekend Series

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.
 – The Samford University baseball team (12-10) will play host to Missouri State (12-9) in a three-game series this weekend at Joe Lee Griffin Field. The teams are scheduled to play Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 12 p.m. All three games can be seen live on ESPN+.
 
  • Samford is set to start right-handed pitcher Jacob Cravey (0-2, 3.64 ERA) in Friday night's series opener. Right-hander Michael Ross (2-0, 5.06 ERA) will start Saturday's contest and right-hander Jalon Long (2-2, 6.08 ERA) will start in Sunday's series finale.
  • Missouri State is scheduled to start right-handed pitcher Adam Link (3-2, 4.05 ERA) Friday evening, right-hander Jake McMahill (0-0, 4.15 ERA) Saturday afternoon and left-handed pitcher Reece Lang (0-1, 4.50 ERA) in Sunday's series finale.
  • Samford and Missouri State have never met in baseball.
  • Samford enters the week with a mark of 12-10. The Bulldogs dropped an 8-4 decision to cross-town rival UAB Tuesday night at Joe Lee Griffin Field. Last weekend, Samford won two-of-three games at UCF.
  • Missouri State has a record of 12-9. The Bears' midweek game at Wichita State was canceled. MSU won two-of-three games from Nevada last weekend. 
  • Samford has made a habit of winning close games so far this season. The Bulldogs are 7-1 in games decided by three runs or less.
  • Stephen Klein leads Samford with a .366 average, six doubles, three home runs and 18 RBI. Towns King is hitting .351 with seven doubles, one triple, six home runs and 19 RBI.
  • Kaden Dreier currently leads the team in RBI with 24, and he is tied for the team lead in home runs with six. He also has two doubles and a .487 slugging percentage so far this season.
  • Missouri State is led offensively by Spencer Nivens, batting .378 with six doubles, a triple, two home runs and 21 RBI.
  • Entering this week, Samford leads the Southern Conference in fielding. The Bulldogs currently have a .973 team fielding percentage.

  • Samford will travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to take on the Alabama Crimson Tide on Tuesday, April 5. The game is set for a 6 p.m. start from Sewell-Thomas Stadium.
