Bulldogs Travel To Take On #17 Auburn Tuesday Evening

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.
 – The Samford University baseball team (15-14, 2-1 SoCon) will play at 17th-ranked Auburn (22-10, 7-5 SEC) Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. at Plainsman Park. The game can be seen live online on SEC Network+.
 
  • Samford enters the week with a mark of 15-14 overall and 2-1 in the Southern Conference. The Bulldogs won two-of-three games from VMI over the weekend. Samford won the first two games, 4-2 and 7-0, before falling in game three, 1-0.
  • Auburn has a record of 22-10 overall and 7-5 in SEC play. The Tigers won two-of-three games from Vanderbilt last weekend, winning games one and three (5-1 and 8-2) and falling in game two (19-4).
  • Samford is scheduled to start right-handed pitcher Will Lynch Tuesday evening. Lynch has appeared in five games and has a record of 0-2 and an ERA of 17.65 in 8.2 innings of work.
  • Auburn is slated to start right-hander Mason Barnett. Entering the week, Barnett has a record of 1-1 and an ERA of 5.36.
  • Samford and Auburn have met 100 previous times, with Auburn holding a 74-25-1 advantage. The teams split two meetings last season. Auburn won the first meeting, 6-4 in Auburn, and Samford took the later meeting at the Hoover Met by a score of 6-1.
  • Entering this week, Samford is tied for first in the Southern Conference in fielding. The Bulldogs currently have a .973 team fielding percentage.
  • Samford has made a habit of winning close games so far this season. The Bulldogs are 9-3 in games decided by three runs or less.
  • Stephen Klein leads Samford with a .341 average, seven doubles, three home runs and 21 RBI.
  • Catcher Kaden Dreier currently leads the team in RBI, and he shares the team lead in home runs. The junior from Brentwood, Tenn., has belted six home runs and driven in 26 runs while posting a slugging percentage of .433.
  • Auburn is led by former Samford standout Sonny Dichiara, batting .452 with 13 doubles, 11 home runs and 32 RBI.

  • Samford will play a three-game Southern Conference series at Western Carolina, starting Thursday. The teams are set to play Thursday at 4 p.m. (CT), Friday at 4 p.m. (CT) and Saturday at 1 p.m. (CT).
