Baseball To Host Jacksonville State Tuesday Evening

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.
 – The Samford University baseball team (17-16, 4-2 SoCon) will play host to in-state rival Jacksonville State (15-18, 9-6 ASUN) Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. at Joe Lee Griffin Field. The game can be seen live on ESPN+.
 
  • Samford enters the week with a mark of 17-16 overall and 4-2 in the Southern Conference. The Bulldogs won two-of-three games at Western Carolina over the weekend. The Bulldogs won games two and three, 7-4 and 17-6, after dropping game one, 11-8. 
  • Jacksonville State has a record of 15-18 overall and 9-6 in Atlantic Sun Conference play. The Gamecocks won two-of-three games from Bellarmine last weekend. JSU won the first and third games, 4-2 and 5-1 and dropped game two by a score of 4-3.
  • Samford is scheduled to start right-handed pitcher Will Lynch on the mound Tuesday night. Lynch has a record of 0-2 and a 12.79 ERA.
  • Jacksonville State is has yet to name a starter for Tuesday night's contest.
  • Samford and Jacksonville State have played 85 previous times, with JSU holding a 53-32 series lead. The teams met earlier this season, with the Gamecocks taking a 9-2 win. Samford has won 15 of the last 20 meetings in the series, including both contests last season.
  • Entering this week, Samford leads the Southern Conference in fielding percentage. The Bulldogs have a team fielding percentage of .972.
  • Stephen Klein leads Samford with a .361 average, seven doubles, four home runs and 25 RBI. Colton Ledbetter leads Samford in home runs (8) and RBI (29).
  • Jacksonville State is led by T.J. Reeves, batting .353. Carson Crowe leads JSU in homers (6) and RBI (23).
  • Samford and Jacksonville State last met on March 22, in Jacksonville, Ala., with the Gamecocks coming away with a 9-2 win. Stephen Klein drove in both of Samford's runs in the loss.
