Bulldogs Return Home For Contest With Furman

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Looking to defend the longest active home win streak in the Southern Conference, the Samford women's basketball team returns to the Pete Hanna Center on Thursday for a midweek matchup with the Paladins of Furman. 
   
The SoCon Contest between Samford and Furman is slated for a 6 p.m. CT tipoff and the game can be streamed on ESPN+. Samford game notes can be found here
   
 Samford enters the weekend atop the SoCon standing with a 4-1 record in league play and a 10-10 overall record. Furman brings a 1-4 SoCon record to Birmingham while being 9-11 overall. 
   
 The Bulldogs and the Paladins are meeting for the 33rd time in program history with Samford holding an 18-14 record in the all-time series. The last time the two squads showed off in Birmingham, five Bulldogs scored in double figures as Samford topped Furman, 90-81. 
   
 Andrea Bailey is once again playing at a SoCon Player of the Year level, averaging 18.6 points per game, which ranks first in the SoCon and 33rd nationally. The second-leading scorer in the SoCon is averaging 16 points. The senior also ranks Top 25 nationally in field goal attempts (22nd/299), points (22nd/371), steals (9th/61) and steals per game (14th/3.05).
 
 Redshirt freshman Carly Heidger has been the most impactful Bulldog off the bench this season appear­ing in all but one game. Heidger leads all Bulldog reserves by 5.9 points per game. Since the start of conference play, the forward is averaging 8.6 points per game with 4.2 rebounds.
   
 Since being thrust into the starting five before the ETSU game, Masyn Marchbanks is averaging 17.5 points per game including dropping 22 at Mercer. Marchbanks' 22-point game is the most points scored in a game by a freshman during the Kuhns era. 
   
 Since arriving on campus before the 2019-20 season, coach Kuhns and the Bulldogs are 32-14 in SoCon play overall and 17-3 against SoCon opponents at home.
   
 Entering play on Wednesday, Samford is the only Division I school to have an outright conference lead in both the men's and women's standings.
