Women’s Basketball Opens SoCon Play With Western Carolina

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the opening game of Southern Conference play, the Samford women's basketball team welcomes the Western Carolina Catamounts to Birmingham.

The Bulldogs and Catamounts are slated for a 6 p.m. CT tipoff and the game can be streamed on ESPN+ with Curt Bloom, Katie Allen and Lynden Blake on the call. Tickets can be found here. Samford game notes can be found here.

Samford enters the contest with a 6-9 record following a 112-75 dismantling of Birmingham-Southern in the first game following the winter break. Since falling on opening night to Troy, the Bulldogs have won five-straight games inside the friendly confines of the Pete Hanna Center.

Samford and Western Carolina are meeting for the 32nd time in program history with the Bulldogs holding a decisive 27-4 record including winning the previous 14 contests dating back to 2014.

In the first 15 games of the season, Samford coach Carley Kuhns has started the lineup of Andrea Bailey, Sussy Ngulefac, Kathleen Wheeler, Alyssa Tarpley and Sanaa Redmond.

Entering the Western Carolina game, Bailey is averaging 18 points per game, which is good enough to rank 45th nationally and first in the SoCon. The senior guard ranks first in the SoCon and 22nd in the country with 270 total points. Bailey also ranks 14th nationally with 41 steals and 19th in the country with 104 made field goals.

Since arriving on campus prior to the 2019-20 season, coach Kuhns and the Bulldogs are 28-13 in SoCon play overall and 15-3 against SoCon opponents at home.
