GAME NOTES--SAMFORD VS. ARKANSAS (PDF)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Samford women's basketball team will travel to Little Rock, Ark., to take on the Arkansas Razorbacks Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at Simmons Bank Arena.
The Bulldogs and Razorbacks are meeting for just the second time. The only previous meeting came in 2017, with Arkansas taking an 84-63 home court win.
Samford comes into this game with a record of 7-3. The team earned a 76-50 win over LaGrange Wednesday evening in the Pete Hanna Center.
So far this season, sophomore
Masyn Marchbanks leads the team in scoring, averaging 11.4 points per game. Graduate transfer
Lexie Pritchard is scoring 8.8 points per game for the Bulldogs. She is also dishing out a team-high 4.3 assists per contest. Redshirt sophomore
Carly Heidger is averaging 9.0 points per game entering Saturday's game. Graduate transfer
Sadie Stetson is averaging 8.0 points per game, while also leading the team in steals, averaging 2.0 steals per game.
Carley Kuhns is in her fifth season as head coach of Samford women's basketball. Kuhns enters this weekend with a record of 131-92 overall and 65-61 in her time at Samford.
Entering this week, Samford ranks second in the Southern Conference in blocked shots, averaging 4.2 per game. Individually,
Emily Bowman leads the SoCon in blocked shots (2.9 pg.). Pritchard ranks second in the league in assist-turnover ratio (1.6) and ranks third in assists per game (4.3), while Stetson ranks second in steals (2.0 pg.).
Arkansas has a record of 8-3 entering Saturday afternoon's game. The Razorbacks most recently played Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Sunday. Arkansas dropped a 74-70 decision to the Golden Lions.
Arkansas has been led so far this season by Taliah Scott, averaging 24.5 points per game. Makayla Daniels averages 11.5 points per game so far for the Razorbacks. Saylor Poffenbarger averages 11.1 points and a team-high 11.7 rebounds per game, while Samara Spencer scores 10.9 points per game and dishes out a team-high 3.4 assists per contest. Arkansas head coach Mike Neighbors is in his seventh season as the Razorbacks' head coach and his 11th season as a Division I head coach. He has a career record of 226-121, including a mark of 128-80 at Arkansas.
