GAME NOTES--SAMFORD AT ALABAMA (PDF)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Samford women's basketball team will travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to take on the Alabama Crimson Tide Sunday at 2 p.m. at Coleman Coliseum.
The Bulldogs and Crimson Tide are meeting for the 11th time, with Alabama holding an 8-2 series lead. The teams last met in 2020, with Alabama earning an 83-63 win in Tuscaloosa.
The Bulldogs come into this game with a record of 6-2. The team earned a 65-51 win over Jacksonville State last Sunday in the Pete Hanna Center.
Carley Kuhns is in her fifth season as head coach of Samford women's basketball. Kuhns enters this weekend with a record of 130-91 overall and 64-60 in her time at Samford. So far this season, sophomore
Masyn Marchbanks leads the team in scoring, averaging 11.4 points per game. Graduate transfer
Lexie Pritchard is scoring 9.8 points per game, while also dishing out a team-high 4.6 assists per contest. Redshirt sophomore
Carly Heidger is averaging 9.3 points per game entering Sunday's game. Graduate transfer
Sadie Stetson is averaging 8.5 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. Stetson also leads the team in steals, averaging 2.3 steals per game.
Entering this week, Samford leads the Southern Conference in blocked shots (4.1 pg.). Individually,
Emily Bowman leads the SoCon in blocked shots (2.9 pg.). Pritchard leads the league in assist-turnover ratio (1.7) and ranks third in assists per game (4.6), while Stetson ranks second in steals (2.3 pg.).
Alabama currently has a record of 8-2 this season. The Crimson Tide earned an 88-46 win over Coastal Carolina Wednesday evening. Before playing Samford Sunday, Alabama will host Stephen F. Austin Saturday afternoon, also at Coleman Coliseum.
Alabama has been led so far this season by Sarah Ashlee Barker, averaging 15.7 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. Aaliyah Nye is scoring 12.4 points per game, while Jessica Timmons is scoring 10.7 points per game for the Crimson Tide. Essence Cody leads Alabama in rebounding, pulling down 7.3 boards per contest. Alabama head coach Kristy Curry is in her 11th season in charge of the Crimson Tide program. She currently has a record of 181-145 at Alabama, and a career mark of 490-293 in her 25th season as a collegiate head coach.
