BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – As the calendar turns to February, the Samford women's basketball hits the road for a midweek matchup with UNCG on Thursday.

Samford opens the road trip with an 11-11 overall record while being 5-2 in SoCon action. UNCG brings a 3-4 conference record into Thursday with a 10-11 overall record.

The Bulldogs and Spartans are meeting for the 33rd time in series history. Samford leads the all-time series 25-7. The last time the two squads met, Andrea Bailey scored 18 points to help Samford secure a 2-0 start to SoCon play on Jan. 7, 2023. Samford has won the last 10 meetings and 12 of the last 13 contests.

The Samford starting lineup has experienced a youth movement since the start of SoCon play with freshman Masyn Marchbanks and redshirt freshman Carly Heidger claiming starting roles. Since being named the starter, Marchbanks is averaging 18 points per game, while Heidger scored a season-high 23 points in her first start against Wofford.

Heidger has been the impactful Bulldog off the bench this season appearing in all but one game. Heidger leads all Bulldog reserves by averaging 7.0 points per game. Since the start of conference play, the forward is Samford's second-leading scorer averaging 11.0 points per game with 4.9 rebounds. In her first career start, Heidger scored 23 points against Wofford, which is the most by a freshman in the Kuhns era.

Bailey is once again playing at a SoCon Player of the Year level averaging 18.3 points per game, which ranks first in the SoCon and 39th nationally. The senior also ranks Top 30 nationally in field goal attempts (21st/332), field goals (30th/148), points (27th/400), steals (5th/72) and steals per game (7th/3.27).

Entering the UNCG game, Samford is 9-3 on the year when the Bulldogs score at least 65 points.

Since arriving on campus before the 2019-20 season, coach Kuhns and the Bulldogs are 33-15 in SoCon play overall and 18-4 against SoCon opponents at home.
