Softball Set To Host Samford Bulldog Classic

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Following a tightly contested game at No. 7 Alabama during the midweek, the Samford softball team returns home to host the Samford Bulldog Classic.

The three-day tournament gets underway on Friday as the Bulldogs welcome Southern Indiana Samford Softball Stadium at 4 p.m. CT before a 6 p.m. nightcap with IUPUI to conclude day one.

Saturday opens with in-state foe North Alabama at 11 a.m. before day two concludes at 4 p.m. with IUPUI.

The Bulldogs will close out the weekend with Staff & Faculty Day on Sunday at 10 a.m. against Southern Indiana.

All five of Samford's home games can be streamed on ESPN+, while Samford's game notes can be found here.

Samford has never played Southern Indiana or IUPUI on the softball diamond, while the Bulldogs are 5-5 all-time against the lions of North Alabama.

McKenzie Newcomb leads a Bulldog pitching staff that leads the Southern Conference with a 2.27 ERA. The staff also ranks 26th in the country with a 3.93 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

Offensively, Grier Bruce paces the Samford attack with a .345 batting average, a pair of home runs and six RBIs from the hot corner.
