Baseball Welcomes Morehead State for Weekend Home Series

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford Baseball Team will host Morehead State for a three-game series, beginning with a doubleheader at noon (CST) on Friday, March 3.
 
The Bulldogs most recently knocked off Alabama State 8-2 on March 1. Freshman Lucas Steele launched a pair of homers and drove in four runs while Josh Rodriguez also drove in two on a home run.
 
Five Bulldog pitchers combined to allow just two runs on Wednesday evening, with starter Jacob Newman (1-0) tossing the first two frames to grab his first collegiate win.
 
The Bulldogs came up with the big hit time and time again on Wednesday, knocking five two-out RBIs and posting a batting average of .385 with two outs in the contest.
 
Stephen Klein, Garrett Howe, and Lucas Steele have all driven in a team-high eight runs while John Anderson (11), Klein (10), and Garrett Staton (10) have all knocked double-digit hits.
 
Junior closer and SoCon Pitcher of the Week Carson Hobbs leads the conference and ranks tied for first in the nation with a 0.00 earned run average. Hobbs also leads the conference in opponents' batting average (.120) and saves (2).
 
Friday will be the first meeting between Samford and Morehead state since 2007, when the Eagles took two of three from the Bulldogs in Morehead, Ky. On the mound, Samford will start Jacob Cravey in game one, Brody Westbrooks in game two, and Will Lynch in game three. 
 
The Eagles dropped its first contest of the season at Kentucky (15-1) on Tuesday after winning their first eight to being the year.
 
Jackson Feltner leads the Eagles with a . 464 batting average and has driven in a team-high 12 runs on a team-best 13 hits with four home runs.
 
Grant Herron (2-0) has struck out a team-high 17 batters over 10 innings while holding opposing hitters to a .216 average.   
 
Head Coach Mike Aoki enters his fourth season at Morehead State, with stops as the head coach at Notre Dame (2010-19) and Boston College (2006-10) along the way.
