Baseball Travels to Auburn Tuesday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford Baseball Team will play its first of nine-consecutive road contests on Tuesday, April 18 when they take on the Auburn Tigers.

First pitch from Plainsman Park is set for 6:00 p.m., with the contest airing live on SEC Network.

The Bulldogs picked up their third series sweep of the season this past weekend, taking all three games against Toledo at Joe Lee Griffin Field. The Bulldogs remained idle in SoCon play to remain atop the conference with a record of 7-2.

Kaden Dreier had the hot bat in the Bulldogs' 10-5 series finale win on Sunday, driving in seven runs with a pair of homers. The senior backstop delivered the big blow in the win with a grand slam in the seventh inning that put Samford up 9-4.

Stephen Klein comes in as the Bulldogs' leading hitter with a .370 batting average that ranks sixth in the SoCon. The junior first baseman is batting .594 in conference play, posting a league-high 1.313 slugging percentage, 16 runs scored, and six homers against SoCon opponents.

Freshman infielder Jayden Davis has hit safely in his last 20 games. Davis batted .400 (6-15) over last week's action to help bolster his batting average to .358.

Tuesday's tilt with the Tigers will be the first of two contests between Samford at Auburn this season. The two teams will meet again on May 9 for a 6:00 PM contest at the Hoover Met.

Auburn holds a 76-25-1 series advantage over Samford in a series that dates back to 1909. The Bulldogs most recently knocked off the Tigers 6-1 on May 12 of the 2021 season at the Hoover Met.

The Tigers dropped two of three games at Alabama this past weekend, falling to 20-15-1 overall. Auburn currently sits tied for fifth with Mississippi State in the SEC West standings at 5-10.

Freshman Ike Irish leads the Tigers in hitting at .355 while Bryson Ware leads the team with 15 homers, 36 runs, and 43 RBI.

John Armstrong leads the Tigers with 16 appearances on the mound and a record of 6-1 while Will Cannon's three saves lead the team.
