BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford Baseball Team's road stretch continues on Tuesday, April 25 with a 6:00 p.m. contest at the University of Alabama.
First pitch from Tuscaloosa, Ala. is slated for 6:00 p.m. (CST), with the contest streaming live on
SEC Network+.
The Bulldogs (22-18, 8-4 SoCon) dropped two of three contests at Wofford this past weekend to fall to 8-4 in Southern Conference play, moving them into a three-way tie for first place in the league standings with Mercer and Wofford.
Samford comes into the weekend batting .274 as a team, with freshman
Jayden Davis leading the squad with a .365 batting average.
John Anderson's 11 home runs and 34 RBI paces the team while
Garrett Staton's 33 runs scored leads the team.
Davis has hit safely in his last 23 games, sitting just nine game short of the program's all-time hitting streak set by Mason Meredith (2009) and Mikey Marseco (2008). The freshman infielder is batting a team-best .427 over that span with a team-high 11 multi-hit performance.
The Bulldogs are scheduled to start
Jacob Newman against the Crimson Tide. Tuesday will mark the sophomore right-hander's eighth midweek nod of the season.
Tuesday will be the 113th meeting between Samford and Alabama, with the Crimson Tide holding a 97-15 advantage. The Bulldog's most recent victory came in 2018, a 6-0 win in
Tuscaloosa on April 17.
The two teams met earlier in the season, with Alabama picking up an 11-6 victory at Joe Lee Griffin Field on March 7.
Jayden Davis scored twice with one base hit in the setback while
Stephen Klein added a hit and a run and Garret Howe drove in a pair.
The Crimson Tide picked up a series sweep at Missouri this past weekend, improving their record to 29-12 overall. The sweep marked Alabama's fifth-straight win in SEC play.
Colby Shelton leads the Crimson Tide and ranks eighth in the SEC with 15 home runs belted on the season. Tommy Seidl leads Alabama in hitting at .351 while Drew Williamson's 42 runs batted in paces the team.
Alton Davis II has been the Crimson Tide's most effective reliever, having allowed just six runs in 21 innings while boasting a 2.57 ERA with five saves. Riley Quick (2.89) also holds a sub-three ERA while having notched a pair of saves.
