The Samford Bulldogs took all three games of their Southern Conference series at home this past weekend against The Citadel to bolster themselves to the top of the SoCon standings at 5-1. Samford led for 18 innings against The Citadel while averaging eight runs a game in the sweep.
The Bulldogs came up with big hit after big hit against The Citadel this past weekend, logging 13 two-out RBI over the course of three games.
Stephen Klein was the Bulldogs' top hitter for the second-straight week, posting a .500 (7-14) batting average and scoring a team-high seven runs over four games last week. The senior first baseman currently leads the Bulldogs and ranks fifth in the SoCon with a .383 batting average.
John Anderson batted .467 (7-15) with four runs batted in while
Garrett Staton and
Aaron Walton each drove in a team-high five runs.
Klein (1.168), Anderson (1.085), and
Lucas Steele (1.018) enter the week with an OPS of over 1.000. All three lead the Bulldogs with 25 runs driven in each.
Jayden Davis comes into Tuesday's match-up having hit safely in his last 13 games. The freshman infielder drove in four runs and went 3-4 against North Alabama on March 21 earlier this season, finishing just a triple shy of the cycle in the contest.
The Bulldogs are scheduled to start
Jacob Newman on Tuesday evening in Florence. The sophomore righty will be making his fifth start of the season and brings with him a record of 2-1
Despite trailing the Lions 11-3 in their series history, the Bulldogs knocked off the North Alabama 12-1 at home back on March 21 this season. Six different pitchers combined to hold the Lions to one run, with Newman grabbing the win on the day.
North Alabama dropped all three contests at ASUN-foe Stetson this past weekend. The Lions battled the Hatters tough in the series finale on Sunday, falling 9-7. Outfielder Jonathan Lane and shortstop Ferrigno Jackson both tallied four hits while Jackson drove in four runs.
Ethan Walker sports a team-high .328 batting average for the Lions coming into the week while Kyle Machado has knocked in a team-best 21 runs and paces North Alabama with 19 runs scored.
Carson leads the Lions with nine appearances on the mound while Jacob Bradshaw, Will Morris, and Will Shepherd have all notched a save.
