Baseball Wraps up Road Stretch at Jacksonville State Wednesday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford Baseball team will play the final contest of its nine-game road stretch on Wednesday at Jacksonville State.
 
First pitch from Jacksonville, Ala. is slated for 4:00 p.m., with the contest streaming live on ESPN+.
 
The Bulldogs (24-20, 10-5 SoCon) took two of three games at VMI last weekend to remain tied with Mercer and Wofford in the SoCon Standings.
 
Samford took game one over VMI 17-7 behind a 9-RBI effort from John Anderson, who slugged two grand slams in the win. Anderson also knocked the game-winning homer in the Bulldogs' 9-7 victory in 11 innings in game two.
 
Anderson enjoyed a monster week for Samford, belting five home runs, 15 RBI, and batting .444 on the way to being named SoCon Player of the Week and one of Collegiate Baseball's National Players of the Week.
 
Garrett Howe batted a team-best .563 (9-16) over four games last week, logging two or more hits in every game to up his batting average to .344.
 
Jayden Davis has hit safely in his last 27 games. The freshman infielder sits just two games shy of tying the program's longest hitting streak at 29.
 
Samford trails Jacksonville State 50-29 in its series history with the Gamecocks. The two teams met earlier this season, with Bulldogs knocking off the Gamecocks 7-6 on Feb. 21 at Joe Lee Griffin Field.

The Bulldogs are scheduled to start junior right-hander Jake Holifield. It will be Holifield's fourth start of the season in 18 appearances.

Jacksonville State (21-21, 14-7 ASUN) swept all three games of its home series against North Alabama this past weekend, improving to fourth place in the ASUN Conference regular season standings.

Javon Hernandez comes into the week leading the ASUN with a .424 batting average and 72 base hits. TJ Revees paces the squad with 45 RBI and has reached base safely in all 42 games this season for the Gamecocks.
