BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Samford's Darcy Nicholls was named the Southern Conference Player of the Week when the league released its weekly men's tennis awards Tuesday afternoon.
 
Nicholls went 2-0 in singles and 1-1 in doubles in helping lead Samford to a pair of home-court wins last week.
 
In the 4-3 win over North Alabama Friday evening, Nicholls earned a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles. In doubles, he, and partner, Will Gray, fell by a score of 6-3 on the No. 3 court.
 
In Sunday's 4-3 win over Troy, Nicholls picked up a 7-5, 6-1 win on the No. 2 singles court. He and Gray then earned a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles.
 
Samford will next play on Feb. 10 when the Bulldogs play at Alabama State.
