Women’s Basketball Falls At Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Samford women's basketball team dropped a 104-59 decision at Vanderbilt Friday evening at Memorial Gymnasium.
 
With the loss, Samford dropped its season record to 2-5. Vanderbilt improved its mark to 6-0 with the win.
 
Sadie Stetson led Samford with 15 points, making 5-of-10 shots from three-point range. Kennedy Langham had 10 points and four assists for the Bulldogs. Emily Bowman added eight points and eight rebounds for Samford.
 
Vanderbilt was led by Khamil Pierre with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Madison Greene added 16 points for the Commodores.
 
In the first quarter, Vanderbilt jumped out to an 8-4 lead with 6:34 left in the first quarter after a layup by Greene. Samford fought back to take a 13-12 lead at the 4:47 mark in the first period after a three-pointer by Kylee Lewandowski. After Vanderbilt built a 17-13 lead, Samford closed the first quarter with an 8-2 run to take a 21-19 lead at the end of the period.
 
Vanderbilt opened the second quarter with a 14-0 run to take a 33-21 lead with 5:09 left in the period after a free throw by Jordyn Oliver. Samford cut the lead to nine points at 35-26 after a free throw by Langham with 2:19 left in the second quarter. Vanderbilt extended its lead to 15 points at 41-26, and the Commodores held a 43-29 lead going into the locker room at halftime.
 
The Commodores pushed their lead to 18 points at 47-29 with 8:12 to go in the third period after a jumper by Jane Nwaba. Samford cut the lead to 13 points at 49-36 at the 6:21 mark in the third period after a three-pointer by Langham. Vanderbilt pushed the lead out to 23 points at 64-41 with 1:11 left in the third following a three-point play by Leilani Kapinus. The Commodores held a 66-45 lead at the end of the third period.
 
Vanderbilt built on its lead steadily throughout the fourth quarter. The Commodores led by as many as 45 points in the final period and Vanderbilt finished with the 104-59 win.
 
Samford will return home to play host to Tennessee Tech on Tuesday, Nov. 26. The game is set for a 12 p.m. start from the Pete Hanna Center.
