GAME NOTES--SAMFORD VS. CENTRAL ARKANSAS (PDF)

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Samford women's basketball team will remain on the road to play at Central Arkansas Friday at 11 a.m. at The Farris Center.
 
The Bulldogs and Sugar Bears are playing for just the second time ever in women's basketball. The only previous meeting came last season, with Samford earning a 65-62 win.
 
The Samford women's basketball team opened the 2024-25 season with a 101-53 setback at national power Tennessee Tuesday evening at Thompson-Boling Arena.
 
Samford freshman guard Claire Johnson got her college career off to a hot start. The Paducah, Kentucky native led Samford with 13 points in the loss, making 4-of-6 shots from the floor, including 2-of-4 from three-point range.
 
Emily Bowman posted a double-double in Tuesday night's season opener. She scored 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for her fifth career double-double and her first of the 2024-25 season. Kennedy Langham, who was named the SoCon Freshman of the Year last season, also tallied 12 points in the loss at Tennessee. Annie Ramil returns to the team this season after not playing the last two seasons. In her return to the Samford team, Ramil scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds.
 
The Central Arkansas Sugar Bears (1-0) opened the season with a 104-30 win over Hendrix College Monday evening.
 
In the win, Central Arkansas was led by Jade Upshaw with 18 points. Cheyanne Kemp scored 17 points and grabbed six rebounds. Also in the win for UCA, Jenna Cook scored 14 points, while Cheyenne Banks grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds.
