Samford Women’s Basketball Cruises To 82-41 Win Over Miles

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's basketball team led from start to finish on its way to an 82-41 win over Miles College Sunday evening in the Pete Hanna Center.

With the win, Samford improved its record to 4-8. The game counted as an exhibition for Miles, not affecting its season record.

"Our word for this month is growth, and we've got to continue to show growth," Samford head coach Carley Kuhns said. "Obviously, I haven't made it easy on them this season and I take full responsibility for our schedule and the positions that we've put them in. But we need to just keep trusting the process and know it is going to pay off late in February and March.

"I love coaching this team, I think we've got weapons at numerous positions and different people ready to step in and contribute," Kuhns said. "We've just got to keep getting better."

For Samford in the win, Sadie Stetson led the team in scoring with 15 points, making 5-of-6 shots, all from three-point range. Two Bulldogs came close to posting double doubles. Annie Ramil had 14 points and nine rebounds, while Emily Bowman tallied nine points and 11 rebounds. Kennedy Langham added 13 points for the Bulldogs.

Miles was led by Tederia Ashley with 10 points and six rebounds.

With Samford leading, 19-13, the Bulldogs went on a 16-0 run to push their lead to 35-13 with 2:04 to go in the second quarter following a pair of free throws by Ramil. Samford held a 41-17 lead heading into the locker room at halftime.

Samford pushed the lead out to 25 points at 44-19 with 8:02 left in the third quarter after a three-pointer by Stetson. With Samford leading, 51-25, the Bulldogs went on a 16-0 run to push their lead to 67-25 with 52 seconds left in the third quarter after a pair of free throws by Alonya Waldon. A late Miles three-pointer made the score 67-28 at the end of the third period.

Samford led by as many as 44 points in the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs finished with the 82-41 win.
