Softball Heads To Florida For UNF-JU Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Following a midweek rainout, the Samford softball team sets its sights on Florida for the UNF-JU Invitational hosted by North Florida and Jacksonville.

The three-day tournament is slated to start on Friday as the Bulldogs meet the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at 11 a.m. before playing host Jacksonville at 4 p.m. to close out the opening day of the weekend.

Saturday opens with a rematch against the Fighting Irish that is scheduled for a 10 a.m. first pitch. Samford's lone streaming game of the weekend will be a showdown with the North Florida Ospreys at 12:30 p.m. to close out Saturday. The weekend wraps with a contest that pits the Bulldogs against the UNCW Seahawks starting at 9 a.m. Sunday.

The UNF-Jacksonville Invitational features a quartet of opponents that the Bulldogs have not faced in quite some time. Samford has not met Notre Dame (1991) or UNCW (1995) on the softball diamond since the 1990s. In more recent history, The Bulldogs played against North Florida in 2011 and Jacksonville in 2017.

Samford enters the weekend after going 1-4 at the Troy-hosted Trojan Invitational. Offensively, the Bulldogs are led by the sophomore duo of Sarah Squillace with a team-best .353 batting average and Grier Bruce with four RBIs and a home run on the young season.

In the circle, Jordyn Partain paced the Bulldogs on the opening weekend by pitching to a 2.10 ERA in 13.1 innings of work.
