Bulldog Softball Welcomes UAB For Home Opener

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Following back-to-back road weekends to open the season, the Samford softball team returns to Samford Softball Stadium for the first time this year to play host to crosstown foe UAB in the 2024 home opener.

The All-Birmingham showdown is slated for a 2 p.m. first pitch on Wednesday. Live Stats for the contest can be found here.

Wednesday's game will feature a "We Heart Our Bulldogs" promotion that'll include heart-shaped donuts for all fans while supplies last.

Samford enters the midweek matchup with a 1-8 record after dropping a quartet of games at the UNF-JU Invitational.

UAB crosses Red Mountain with a record of 3-6. The Blazers are coming off a 2-3 weekend at the South Alabama Invitational.

The Samford home opener will be the 40th meeting between the two squads in a series that dates back to 2000. UAB leads the all-time series 33-6.

In the circle for the Bulldogs, Reining Southern Conference Pitcher of the Year McKenzie Newcomb owns the lone Samford win on the season while Jordyn Partain paces the staff with a 4.58 ERA.

After a breakout sophomore season, Logan Champion leads the Samford offensive attack with a .286 batting average and is tied with Grier Bruce and Katie Campbell for the team lead with one home run.
