GAME NOTES--SAMFORD AT UCF (PDF)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford University baseball team will travel to Orlando, Fla., to take on the UCF Knights in a three-game series this weekend. The teams are scheduled to play Friday at 5 p.m. (CT), Saturday at 5 p.m. (CT) and Sunday at 12 p.m. (CT).
Samford is scheduled to start right-handed pitcher
Brooks Rice on Friday, right-hander
Michael Ross on Saturday and right-hander
Will Lynch on Sunday. UCF has named right-handed pitcher Ben Vespi its starter for Friday's contest. Right-hander Tyler Nesbitt is set to start for the Knights on Saturday. UCF has not named a starter for Sunday's series finale.
Samford and UCF have met 24 previous times, with UCF holding a 20-4 series lead. The teams last met in a series at UCF in 2022. Samford took two-of-three from the Knights, winning game one, 4-3 in 10 innings and game two, 7-6, before falling in game three by a score of 11-1.
Samford most recently took on in-state rival Jacksonville State Tuesday evening at Joe Lee Griffin Field. The Bulldogs defeated the Gamecocks, 7-3, to improve to 4-0 on the season. So far this season, Samford has been led at the plate by
John Anderson, batting .583 with two home runs and eight RBI. Freshman
Angelo Prieto is hitting .467 with two homers and seven RBI. As a team, Samford currently leads the SoCon and ranks eighth in the nation in home runs per game, averaging 2.5 per contest.
UCF has a record of 2-0, and most recently earned a 4-3 win at Miami Wednesday night. Andrew Sundean has led UCF at the plate, batting .444 with three RBI.
