Softball Opens Road Trip At Cocky Classic On Friday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After a quick trip home for the midweek, the Samford softball team embarks on a nine-game road swing on Friday with a doubleheader to open the Jacksonville State-hosted Cocky Classic.

The two-day tournament is slated to open at 10 a.m. on Friday with the Bulldogs facing off with the Belmont Bruins before Samford plays host Jacksonville State in the 5:30 p.m. nightcap. Samford concludes the weekend on Saturday with a 5:30 p.m.

Jacksonville State and Samford have met on the softball diamond a total of 71 times. The Gamecocks lead the all-time series 45-26 and the two split the 2023 meetings. The Bulldogs lead Belmont 10-6 all-time but trail Southern Miss 9-10.

Samford enters the weekend with a record of 1-9 on the season after falling in five straight games at the UNF-JU Invitational and in the midweek to UAB.

Junior Sarah Squillace has led the Bulldog offensive throughout the first 10 games by batting a team-best .286 with a squad-high 11 total bases. The Samford trio of Katie Campbell, Logan Champion and Grier Bruce each have four RBIs on the year.

Despite not having a decision yet on the season, Karley Fuller boasts a team-best ERA of 3.82.
