GAME NOTES--SAMFORD VS. FURMAN (PDF)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's basketball team will play its final home game of the 2023-24 season when the Bulldogs host Furman Saturday at 4:30 p.m. in the Pete Hanna Center. The game can be seen live on ESPN+.
The Bulldogs and Paladins have met 35 previous times, with Samford owning a 20-15 series lead. The teams met earlier this season, with Samford winning, 66-60 in Greenville, S.C.
The Bulldogs come into this game with a record of 13-14 overall and 5-7 in SoCon play. The team earned a 64-62 win over Wofford Thursday evening.
So far this season,
Carly Heidger leads the team in scoring, averaging 9.8 points per game.
Sadie Stetson is averaging 8.4 points per game. She also leads the squad in steals, averaging 1.6 steals per game. Freshman
Kennedy Langham averages 7.7 points per game, while
Masyn Marchbanks averages 9.2 points per game.
Lexie Pritchard averages 5.8 points per game, and she also leads the team in assists, dishing out 2.9 per game.
Emily Bowman averages 8.0 points and a team-high 8.1 rebounds per game. She leads the SoCon and ranks 18th in the nation in blocked shots per game, averaging 2.4 per contest. She has 65 blocks so far this season, just five short of the school record of 70 by Courtney Moore in 1997-98.
Entering this game, Samford ranks third in the Southern Conference in blocked shots, averaging 3.81 per game. Individually, in addition to leading the league in blocks, Bowman ranks third in the SoCon in rebounding (8.1). Pritchard ranks fifth in the league assists per game (2.9), while Stetson ranks fifth in steals per game (1.6).
The Furman Paladins come into Saturday afternoon's game with a record of 14-13 overall and 4-7 in Southern Conference play. Furman most recently played at Mercer Thursday night, falling to the Bears by a score of 55-50.
The Paladins have been led so far this season by Jada Session, averaging 12.4 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. Kate Johnson is currently averaging 11.3 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. Niveya Henley is also averaging 11.3 points per game, while Sydney Ryan scores 10.9 points per game for the Paladins.
