Bulldogs Continue Road Swing On Tuesday At Alabama State

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Following a historic offensive outburst to conclude the weekend, the Samford softball team heads south on Interstate 65 to Montgomery for a midweek contest with the Alabama State Hornets.

The first pitch between the two in-state foes is slated for 3 p.m. on Tuesday and can be streamed on the Hornets Sports Network. Live Stats can be found here.

Samford will arrive in Montgomery with a record of 2-11 after going 1-2 at the Jacksonville State-hosted Cocky Classic. In the weekend finale on Saturday, the Bulldogs scored 16 runs on 16 hits against Southern Miss. The 16 runs are the most in a game since 2014 and the hits are most since 2016.

Alabama State enters the contest with a record of 7-7 on the season after taking two of three games at the HBCU Celebration Classic.

Tuesday will be the 21st meeting between the Bulldogs and Hornets with Samford winning the previous 20 meetings. Over the last five meetings, Samford has outscored Alabama State 46-16 including an 11-5 contest in 2023.

During the 2023 season, the Bulldogs went 2-7 against in-state foes. Entering the midweek, Samford needs one win to match the win total against Alabama schools from last season.

Offensively, Sarah Squillace paces the Bulldogs with a team-high .362 batting average and 17 base hits. Logan Champion and Grier Bruce each have seven runs batted in on the season to lead the squad while the newcomer duo of Katie Campbell and Linsey Hargis have homered twice.

In the circle, junior Jordyn Partain has been the workhorse of the Samford pitching staff tossing a team-high 29.1 innings with an ERA of 3.34.
