GAME NOTES--SAMFORD VS. BELLARMINE (PDF)

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Samford University baseball team will play host to the Bellarmine Knights in a four-game series this weekend at Joe Lee Griffin Field. The teams are scheduled to play one game Friday at 6 p.m., a doubleheader Saturday at 12 p.m. and a single game Sunday at 1 p.m.
 
Samford is scheduled to start right-handed pitcher Brooks Rice Friday, right-hander Michael Ross in game one on Saturday, right-hander Will Lynch in Saturday's game two and righty John Malone on Sunday. Bellarmine has named right-handed pitcher Cooper Hellman as Friday's starter. The Knights have yet to name starters for the remaining three games.
 
Samford and Bellarmine will be meeting for the first time ever in baseball. Samford has a record of 4-4 on the young season, and the team most recently played at 19th-ranked Auburn Tuesday evening, falling by a score of 12-3.
 
So far this season, Samford has been led at the plate by John Anderson, batting .455 (10-for-22) with two doubles, two home runs and 11 RBI. Garrett Howe is batting .444 (12-for-27) with four doubles, one home run and one RBI.

As a team, Samford currently ranks second in the SoCon in home runs with 13. Individually, Garrett Staton is tied for second in the SoCon in home runs (3), Anderson leads the SoCon in slugging percentage (.909) and ranks second in on-base percentage (.576).
 
Bellarmine enters the series with a mark of 1-6. The Knights dropped three games over the weekend at UNC Asheville, falling by scores of 20-3, 14-11 and 16-5. Bellarmine has been led so far at the plate by Brady Morse, batting .346 with four doubles and three RBI.
