Samford Softball Concludes Longest Road Swing of Season at Bulldog Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – To close out the longest road trip of the 2024 season, the Samford softball sets its sights on the Mississippi State-host Bulldog Invitational.

The three-day event starts on Friday morning as the Bulldogs are slated for rematches with the Troy Trojans at 10 a.m. and the Southern Miss Golden Eagles at 12:30 p.m. in the nightcap.

Saturday will feature another pair of contests with the same two squads with Samford playing Southern Miss at 4:30 p.m. and Troy at 7 p.m. to conclude the day.

Rounding out the weekend, an All-Bulldog battle is slated for 3 p.m. on Sunday with host Mississippi State.

Samford and Troy split a pair of games at the Trojan Invitational on opening weekend while the Bulldogs topped Southern Miss 16-0 on February 24 as part of the Cocky Classic.

Historically, Samford is 7-93 all-time versus SEC programs including a 2-22 record against the Bulldogs of Mississippi State.

Samford is one of 12 teams in Division I softball this season set to face the same non-conference four or more times as the Bulldogs are scheduled to take on Troy and Southern Miss four times each in 2024.

Entering the weekend, Samford brings a 2-12 record to Starkville after dropping a heartbreaking 3-2 contest at Alabama State in the midweek.

Offensively, Sarah Squillace paces the Bulldogs with a team-high .333 batting average and 17 base hits. Grier Bruce has eight runs batted in on the season to lead the squad while the newcomer duo of Katie Campbell and Linsey Hargis have homered twice.

In the circle, junior Jordyn Partain has been the workhorse of the Samford pitching staff tossing a team-high 29.2 innings with an ERA of 3.30.
