GAME NOTES--SAMFORD AT JSU (PDF)

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Samford University baseball team will travel to Jacksonville, Ala., to take on in-state rival Jacksonville State Tuesday night at 6 p.m. The game can be seen live on ESPN+.
 
Samford has named right-handed pitcher Alex Flood as its starter for the game. Flood has appeared in four games and has a 3.86 ERA in 7.0 innings of work. JSU will start right-hander Drew McCormick Tuesday night. He has a 3.86 ERA in 2.1 innings on the mound.
 
Samford and Jacksonville State will be meeting for the 90th time, with JSU holding a 54-35 series lead. Earlier this season, the teams met at Joe Lee Griffin Field, with Samford earning a 7-3 win over the Gamecocks.
 
Samford has a record of 12-7, and most recently split four games at Purdue over the weekend. Samford won games one (5-1) and four (11-10) and dropped games two (6-1) and three (13-12).
 
So far this season, Samford has been led at the plate by Garrett Howe, batting .493 (33-of-67) with eight doubles, three home runs and 16 RBI. John Anderson is hitting .417 (25-of-60) with four doubles, five home runs and 22 RBI.

As a team, Samford currently leads the Southern Conference in home runs with 31. Individually, Garrett Howe leads the SoCon in hits (33) and runs scored (27) and ranks second in the SoCon in batting average (.493), doubles (8) and on-base percentage (.602). Garrett Staton ranks third in the SoCon in runs scored (25). Michael Ross ranks third in innings pitched (29.1) and fifth in ERA (2.76).
 
Jacksonville State has a record of 9-10 overall so far this season. The Gamecocks lost two-of-three games at Southern Illinois over the weekend. Bear Madliak leads the Gamecocks at the plate, batting .293 on the season. Brennen Norton leads JSU in home runs with eight, while Derrick Jackson Jr. is the team leader in RBI with 18.
