Samford Softball Opens Road Swing With Series At Furman

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After a midweek rainout, the Samford softball team will return to action on Saturday as the Bulldogs open a six-game road trip with three games against the Furman Paladins.

The weekend series will feature a doubleheader starting at noon CT on Saturday and will conclude with the finale at noon on Sunday. All three games will be streamed on ESPN and Samford's game notes can be found here.

Samford enters the weekend with an overall record of 12-15, but the Bulldogs are 5-2 since being swept by Chattanooga to open Southern Conference play.

Furman opens the weekend with an 18-21 record on the year and 3-6 in the league after being swept back-to-back weekends by UNCG and Mercer.

Samford and Furman have met 62 previous times with each squad winning 31 times. Since Kimball Cassady before the 2021 season, the Bulldogs are 7-3 against the Paladins.

Offensively, the Bulldogs are paced at the top of the lineup by the junior duo of McKayla Cothran and Sarah Squillace. Cothran leads Samford in batting average at .350, while Squillace is slashing .308.

The heart of the order features one of the best young hitters in the conference as Katie Campbell leads the team with 10 home runs and 35 RBIs. Grier Bruce ranks second on the squad with three homers and 20 RBIs while Logan Champion has a pair of triples and a .325 batting average to help pace the Bulldogs.

On the national stage, Campbell ranks top 100 nationally in hit-by-pitches (7/71st), home runs (10/58th), home runs per game (0.28/65th), RBIs (35/73rd) and RBIs per game (0.97/78th).

In the circle, Jordyn Partain has been the workhorse of the Bulldog pitching staff tossing 100.2 innings, which ranks third among SoCon pitchers. The junior's 20 games started are the 16th most by any starting pitcher in the country.
