GAME NOTES--SAMFORD VS TROY (PDF)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford University baseball team will play host to in-state rival Troy Thursday night at 6 p.m. at Joe Lee Griffin Field. The game can be seen live on ESPN+.
Samford and Troy have met 72 previous times, with Troy holding a 46-26 series lead. Last season the teams met once, with the Trojans taking a 7-6 win in Troy, Ala. Samford's last win in the series came in 2021, with a 4-3 win at Joe Lee Griffin Field.
Samford will start right-handed pitcher
Will Lynch in Tuesday night's game. Lynch has a record of 1-2 and a 9.69 ERA entering Tuesday night's game. Troy has named left-handed pitcher Conor Burt as its starting pitcher for Tuesday night's game. Burt has an 0-0 record and an ERA of 3.27.
Samford has a record of 24-11 overall and 8-1 in SoCon play. The Bulldogs won two-of-three from ETSU over the weekend. Last Tuesday night, Samford earned a 9-7 win over 10th-ranked Kentucky.
So far this season, Samford has been led at the plate by
John Anderson, batting .419 with 10 doubles, nine home runs and 42 RBI.
Garrett Howe is hitting .394 with 10 doubles, five home runs and 27 RBI. Dating back to last season, Howe has currently reached base in 36-consecutive games, the third-longest streak in school history.
As a team, Samford currently leads the Southern Conference in home runs with 55 and ranks third in batting average at .317. Individually,
John Anderson ranks second in the SoCon in batting average (.419), while
Garrett Howe ranks fifth in the league (.394). Howe also leads the SoCon in walks (32) and ranks second in on-base percentage (.530).
Troy enters Tuesday night's game with a mark of 25-12 overall and 9-6 in Sun Belt Conference play. Over the weekend, Troy won two-of-three games at Appalachian State, winning games one (17-2) and three (13-5) and losing game two (11-1).
Troy has been led so far this season by Ethan Kavanagh, batting .381 with nine doubles, two home runs and 36 RBI. Will Butcher and Brooks Bryan share the team lead in home runs with 11 each, and Bryan leads the team in RBI with 56.
