GAME NOTES--SAMFORD VS. NORTH ALABAMA (PDF)

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford University baseball team will play host to the North Alabama Lions Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. at Joe Lee Griffin Field.
 
Samford and North Alabama have met 16 previous times, with UNA holding a 12-4 series lead. The teams split two games during the 2023 season, with the home team winning both games. Earlier this season, Samford earned a 19-10 win over North Alabama in Florence, Ala.
 
Samford will start left-handed pitcher Miller Riggins on the mound Tuesday. Riggins has a record of 0-1 and an ERA of 6.17 entering Tuesday's game. North Alabama will start right-handed pitcher John Allen Stogner (2-5, 9.78 ERA) in Tuesday's game.
 
Samford has a record of 31-16 overall and 12-3 in SoCon play. The Bulldogs won two-of-three games from Mercer over the weekend. Last Wednesday, the Bulldogs played at North Alabama, earning a 19-10 win in Florence, Ala.  
 
So far this season, Samford has been led at the plate by Garrett Howe, batting .400 with 15 doubles, eight home runs and 42 RBI. John Anderson is hitting .389 with 17 doubles, 11 home runs and a team-high 56 RBI. Andrew Bennett is batting .359 with 10 doubles, six home runs and 32 RBI. Garrett Staton is hitting .320 with 16 doubles, a team-high 16 home runs and 54 RBI.
 
As a team, Samford currently leads the SoCon in home runs with 79 and ranks third in batting average at .315. Individually, Michael Ross leads the league in ERA (2.54), wins (10) and fewest runs allowed (22). Howe leads the SoCon in batting average, hitting .400 so far this season and in runs scored (64). Anderson leads the league in doubles (17).
 
North Alabama enters the week with a record of 16-30 overall and 8-16 in the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Lions won two-of-three games at Queens over the weekend.
 
The Lions have been led at the plate so far this season by Gehrig Frye, batting .337 with 11 doubles, 15 home runs and 46 RBI. Kyle Machado is currently hitting .303 with 10 doubles, two triples, five home runs and 31 RBI for the Lions.
