BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Samford starting pitcher
Michael Ross was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 18
th round of the Major League Baseball Draft Tuesday afternoon.
Ross set a Samford single-season record by winning 13 games this season, finishing with a record of 13-0. He was named the Southern Conference Pitcher of the Year after leading the league in wins and ERA (3.27). His 13 wins were also tied for the most in all of NCAA Division I baseball.
In addition to being named the SoCon Pitcher of the Year, Ross was named first team All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and second team by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA).
He finished his Samford career with an impressive 20-1 record with a 3.89 ERA. He struck out 158 batters, while walking just 44.
Ross marks the second Samford player to be drafted this season as
Garrett Howe went to the Cleveland Guardians in the 11
th round.
