TULSA, Okla. – Samford rising sophomore
Gabi Nicastro was eliminated from match play at the 124
th U.S. Women's Amateur Championship, falling to Gianna Clemente Wednesday afternoon at Southern Hills Country Club.
Nicastro, who qualified for the tournament by winning the State Amateur Championship last month, fell to Clemente, 5 and 4. Nicastro made it through the two stroke play rounds, which were held Monday and Tuesday, to make the cut for match play, establishing herself as one of the top amateurs in the nation.
Nicastro had a sensational freshman season at Samford, earning Southern Conference Freshman of the Year honors. She qualified for the NCAA Auburn Regional, before going on to win the State Amateur and reach the U.S. Women's Amateur.
