CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Samford volleyball team dropped a 3-2 (25-19, 20-25, 16-25, 25-20, 10-15) decision Saturday afternoon at Chattanooga. 
 
With the loss, Samford fell to 1-5 in league play and 6-11 overall. This match was Samford's last in their two matches, two-day conference road trip. They beat Western Carolina the day before in a 3-0 sweep.
 
Kaleigh Meritt, had 23 kills and seven digs to lead Samford in the match. Shea Bruntmyer totaled 32 assists while Ally Cordes had 22 kills and 49 attacks. 
 
For Chattanooga, Gracie Rose had 18 kills and Sydney Jackwin had 15.

In the first set, Bulldogs and the Mocs traded points up until a service ace from Amelia Johnston put the Bulldogs up., 15-14. The Bulldogs took off with this lead and took the first set with a score of 25-19.
 
While the Bulldogs opened the second set strong with a quick 2-0 lead, the Mocs bounced back quickly which gave them the momentum to take the second set, 25-20. The Jaguars went on to win set three as well, 25-16. 
 
Samford recovered in the fourth set coming back from a late four-point deficit of 14-18. A service ace from Cordes and an error from the Mocs put the Bulldogs up 20-18. Janie Stinchcomb sealed the fourth set win with a kill assisted from Shea Bruntmyer, 25-20, sending the match into the fifth.

In the fifth and deciding set, Bulldogs opened early in a deficit behind the Mocs. A kill from Meritt brought the Bulldogs into the match but with a couple of kills from the Mocs they eventually took the fifth set, 15-10 and the match, 3-2.
 
Samford will continue conference play on the road next weekend against The Citadel and Mercer.
