BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford volleyball team dropped a 3-1 (18-25, 16-25, 25-15, 20-25) match against Wofford Friday evening. This match was the Bulldogs home conference opener.
With the loss, Samford are now 5-9 overall and continue Southern Conference play 0-3. Furman improved its record to 7-7 overall and continue league play at 3-0.
In the loss, Samford was led in kills by
Ally Cordes with 18 kills and 16 digs while
Sydney Waller followed with 11 kills. Shea Bruntmyer collected 23 assists while Tatelynn Brandsma had 20.
Wofford was led by Chloe Smith with 18 kills and nine digs.
In both the first and second set, Wofford opened up strong, taking early leads and eventually both sets, 25-18 & 25-16.
In the third set Bulldogs and Terriers traded points back and forth until a kill from
Kaleigh Meritt put Samford ahead, 14-12. Bulldogs continued to add on to their lead with three straight kills from
Ally Cordes and an error from the Terriers gave the Bulldogs the set, 25-15.
Bulldogs and Terriers battled deep into the fourth set, but the Bulldogs couldn't find a lead. After two errors from the Bulldogs, Wofford ended up winning the set, 25-20 and the match, 3-1.
Samford will return to The Pete Hanna Center on Saturday, Oct. 4 for their annual Dig Orange Match against ETSU. The match is set for a 5 p.m. start and will be streamed on ESPN+.
