Bulldogs Sweep Chattanooga, Golden Sets School Record

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Samford Volleyball team swept Chattanooga 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-21) in their first match of two in The Pete Hanna Center this week.  

Bulldogs are now 5-8 in conference matches, and their overall season record is 10-14.

The first eight points of set one were split evenly between the Bulldogs and the Mocs. Greer Golden went on a three-point run to make the match, 8-8. Golden would go on in the match to set a school record match hitting percentage of 1.00.

Golden was 12 for 12 in kills and collected 3 blocks. Kaleigh Meritt led the team in kills with 15 and tied with Ameilia Johnston in digs with 13.
Bulldogs had a five-point lead late in the set, 20-15. A service ace from Meritt secured the set point and eventually the Bulldogs won set one, 25-19.

Similarly to the first set the second set opened with the Mocs and Bulldogs trading points. A block from Ally Cordes and Janie Stinchcomb sparked the Bulldogs early lead in the set, 10-8. A service ace from Emma Sorensen put an emphasis on the Bulldogs lead making it 16-11. Cordes would go on to score both the set point and the set for the Bulldogs with two kills, giving the bulldogs set two, 25-18.

Set three was the closest match of the night with both teams scoring points back and forth up until late in the set. There were three service aces for the Bulldogs in the set with Amelia Johnston and Brooklyn Drumwright each recording one and Shea Bruntmyer's serving ace gave the Bulldogs the match 25-21.

Bulldogs will continue their two-match home conference stand next against Western Carolina on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. This match will be broadcasted on ESPN+ and can be followed on Live Stats.
