BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford men's basketball team hosted Bryan College today for an afternoon game at the Pete Hanna Center. The Bulldogs handled their NAIA opponents and used hot shooting to capture the 106-51 victory. With the win, Samford moves to 6-6 on the season.
The Bulldogs jumped out to a quick lead today, hitting their first five shots from the floor and taking a 13-0 lead. The Dogs got whatever they wanted offensively, as they overmatched the Lions. They shot over 60 percent from the field and went 11-of-18 from deep in the opening 20 minutes.
Jadin Booth went 5-for-5 from three in the half as he scored 15 of his team-high 19 points.Â
Samford got production from the majority of their roster as they grew their lead to as much as 44 points in the half. Nine different players scored for the Dogs, as
Cade Norris scored 10 and
Kam Martin, who started his third game of the year, added eight first-half points.
Dylan Faulkner went 3-of-4 from the field, scoring nine points, and
Judson Bjornstad got a quick seven points off the bench. Samford held Bryan to 30 percent shooting as they were ahead at the break, 60-18.
After coming out of the half in complete control of the game, the Bulldogs did well to keep their foot on the gas pedal as they extended their rotation in the second 20 minutes of play. The Dogs shot 16-of-33 in the second half and cooled off slightly from three, going 7-for-20 from deep.Â
It was a balanced attack in the second half, as
Will Shaver scored eight points off the bench and Faulkner added seven more points to finish with 16 points and 8 rebounds.
Zion Wilburn and
Caleb Harrison each scored six second-half points off the bench, and
Zach Lamey added two threes on the day. The Dogs finished shooting 55 percent from the floor and knocked down a season-high 18 threes. Samford has now shot over 50 percent two games in a row and is back to .500 on the season after the dominant win.
The Bulldogs are back in action at the end of the week as they host another NAIA opponent in Reinhardt on Friday afternoon. Tip is set for noon inside the Pete Hanna Center as the Eagles enter today with a 5-9 record and face Augusta the day prior to their game at Samford.
